N. oculomotorius (III пара) іннервує більшість м'язів очного яблука та парасимпатичні волокна, що стискають зіницю через m. sphincter pupillae. При його ураженні (зокрема при гематомі середньої черепної ямки або вклиненні скроневого відростка) виникає мідріаз (розширення зіниці) на стороні ураження. N. abducens іннервує m. rectus lateralis, а N. trochlearis — m. obliquus superior.
